In 2006 and 2008, Zoya Ministries visited Ministry of Mercy Orphanage (MoM) to provide medical attention and more importantly to spend time with the children as well as their caregivers. We experienced firsthand all that is involved in running an orphanage where the need is great and the resources are few. Daniel and Esther Edeh are the founders and directors of MoM Orphanage. With the love of Jesus Christ in their hearts, they started the orphanage 14 years ago and have housed over 300 children! No child is ever been turned away regardless of their situation. Whether abandoned, motherless or a special needs child, each child is cared for on an individual basis according to their needs. Due to the remoteness of the village where the orphanage is located coupled with the lack of modern conveniences; there are specific areas that require immediate attention in order to provide the proper care for these children. During our visits to MoM, we have established a need for: adequate housing, a play area for the infants and toddlers, a medical clinic that is able to supply medicine and vaccinations in addition to medical care, a security wall and a home for Daniel and Esther and other caregivers. As a result of these needs, The Noah’s Ark Project was founded to improve the lives of the children at the orphanage. The project will consist of a home for infants and toddlers called “The Ark”, a security wall around the compound of the orphanage and a home for Daniel and Esther, directors of the orphanage.
The purpose of “The Ark” is to provide a safe haven for the infants and toddlers who spend most of their day crawling, eating and sleeping on cement floors. A fully furnished play area will provide fun and stimulation for the infants and toddlers. It is also very important to provide the proper beds to ensure that these children have a comfortable place to sleep. A healthy environment is essential these young children to flourish. The security wall will provide safety for the MoM community and reduce the possibility of a child wandering away from the orphanage. The home for Daniel and Esther Edeh will provide a residential area for these directors and their seven biological children.
