NIGERIA 2008 MISSION TRIP

Trip Report

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has” – Margaret Mead.

The call

We visited the MOM Orphanage in Otutulu, Kogi State, Nigeria in June 2006. After our return to the U.S. we knew God would have us return two years later. Returning to the orphanage in 2008 we were filled with excitement as we anticipated a great move of God. When we went to MOM in 2006, we went with  a total of 24 people. On this second trip we traveled with a total of  51 missionaries and were joined by two additional Nigerian physicians. The theme for this trip was “Touching a village, reaching a nation and expanding the kingdom”.

The Journey

We experienced and saw the faithfulness of God from the beginning to the end. We saw God’s faithfulness with the airlines as we packed about 120 bags for the Orphanage. The Lord also gave us favor with the Nigerian Immigration and Customs.

We arrived at the Orphanage after a six hour drive that could only be described as miraculous. Truly, God gave us traveling mercies throughout our trip. We arrived to hugs and kisses from the children at the Orphanage, many of whom we met two years ago.

The Accomplishments

We provided free medical care to about 900 patients, medical blood test screening to over 300 patients, and performed 12 circumcisions with one hernia repair.

Over 600 pairs of ‘Crocs’ shoes were given to the children at the Orphanage with many learning to walk with shoes on for the first time. Over 200 back packs were provided for all the school children at the Orphanage. We also participated in the dedication of a brand new 60KVA generator donated by Zoya Ministries, to supply electricity to the entire Orphanage. Over 50 brand new soccer balls, basketball and football were given to the Orphanage school for their exercise program. Clothes, blankets and daily accessories were given to the aunties to provide for the children’s daily need. Toothbrushes and toothpastes were also given for dental care.

Crutches and 4 wheel chairs were provided for to the handicapped and 1 motorized wheel chair was given to the school headmaster. God also used Zoya Ministries to provide medical care to a little boy who had been walking with a broken hip for over a year and now hes recuperating from the hip surgery.

Our greatest joy was in the opportunity we were given to interact with each of the children – by playing with them and holding them in our arms; this was the real reason God sent 51 people to this Orphanage.  God truly allowed us to be His hands and feet to these children.

(Job 29:12, 15, 16: “because I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist him.”, “I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame.”, “I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger” )

Many heard the gospel of salvation and opened their hearts to the savior as we demonstrated practical Christianity; about 150 gave their heart to Christ during this trip.

God’s Faithfulness

The Lord gave us many promises before we left Gen 28:15; Deuteronomy 31:6 and Joshua  1:5; He kept all of His promises. We all returned safely from Nigeria and for that we give God all the glory.

The Future

Our work is not complete at the Orphanage and we plan to go back in the future. God has given us a wonderful opportunity to continue caring for the Orphanage by starting a program called “SPONSOR A CHILD”. This will give everyone an opportunity to support a child at the Orphanage on a monthly basis. This will help to provide food, clothing and medical care for each child. The Orphanage really needs this support as they do not receive any government or corporation assistance. For more information on this program please visit us at “An Orphan’s Prayer”

Our Gratitude

Great things were accomplished on this trip and for that we give God all the glory. We also want to thank all of you who donated to Zoya Ministries and specifically supported this mission trip to the Orphanage.  We believe God will be faithful to each and every one of you as you have heard the cry of the poor, orphans  and widows; God promised to repay you as you have given to the poor.  (Proverbs 19:17).

May God continually be glorified through Zoya Ministries as we serve Him and accomplish all that God has called us to do until He returns.

Serving Him till He Returns,
